Filtered Search Engines for Kids
  • Yahooligans! – Yahoo's Web Guide for Kids (ages 7 - 12) offers "kid friendly" selections arranged by subject.

  • The Amazing Picture Machine – This NCRTEC Index to Graphical Resources on the Internet is the best engine for quickly finding pictures.

  • Ask Jeeves for Kids – Answers to commonly asked kid questions are organized in the archives or you can type in your own question and Ask Jeeves will find Web pages that help answer your question. (Uses SurfWatch to block inappropriate sites.)

  • KidsClick! – This site contains links to sites selected by Berkeley librarians. You can search by keywords or browse through the subject sections.

  • AltaVista – AltaVista's Family Filter option is designed to protect children from seeing objectionable material when searching the Web. Enable it by selecting "AV Family Filter" from the links below the main search box (in the "Specialty Searches" section).

  • Lycos for Kids – Lycos has a section for kids and also allows parents to screen possibly objectionable sites from Lycos search results by setting up SearchGuard.

  • Kids Search Engines – provides links to filtered search engines (that block certain sites) for kids.

  • Google Web Directory for Kids and Teens – A comprehensive search engine that filters and focuses on topics of interest to kids and teens.
