Library Media Program
Our Library Media program aims to prepare students to become literate, life-long learners and trains them to be effective users of information. School librarians teach library skills and provide access to materials that support classroom programs and curriculum. Library resources are available to students and staff on a checkout basis. Our interlibrary loan service allows school libraries to share resources.

The Library Media program
  • Encourages students to enjoy reading and appreciate literature
  • Provides access to a current, comprehensive, and enticing collection of materials
  • Teaches students search strategies and techniques to access information
  • Educates students to critically evaluate information
Collection Development

The Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) library system holds records of nearly 230,000 items, including books, serials, audio cassettes, video cassettes, reference sources, and software.

Books and materials that are housed in the school library collections have undergone a rigorous selection process. School librarians regularly evaluate their collections to be as relevant as possible. Out-of-date materials are discarded and damaged books replaced.
Our collections:
  • Support curriculum and enrichment instruction
  • Provide quality literary choices and support student interests
  • Serve a pluralistic society
