QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
• equivalent to high school graduation
Experience and Training:
• two years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance of financial or statistical records
• supplemental courses in bookkeeping or accounting
• computer training required
Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, to perform complex and responsible work in the keeping of financial or statistical records; and to do job-related work as required.
Specific Duties Include:
- independently maintain a complete set of financial records, such as budget ledgers, cafeterial accounts, or payroll records
- receive financial documents, screens for accuracy and adherence to legal and procedural requirements
- carry out procedural steps to ensure or authorize payments or delivery
- post all school and department expenditures, and checks and balances totals
- make computations of financial data
- make up trial balances and recapitulations from records maintained
- may contact other agencies, districts, schools, and district employees to discuss financial records and transactions
- give authoritative information on records maintained
- may conduct routine correspondence independently
- operate calculator, typewriter, and computer terminal
- may schedule, coordinate and advise lower level accounting clerical positions
Essential Skills Include the Ability to:
- perform difficult clerical work without continuous supervision
- make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy
- prepare accurate financial summaries and reports
- demonstrate skill on a variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and communication software
- operate modern office appliances such as adding and calculating machines and computer terminals
- understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- keyboard/type at a rate of 45 words per minute from clear copy containing large percentage of numerical or tabular data
- maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work
This position requires thorough knowledge of:
- methods and practices of financial record keeping
- bookkeeping methods and terminology
- modern office methods and procedures
- computer accounting systems
- Microsoft Word, Works, or Excel
- English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation
